Another big week for Barnfield West Academy, especially ending with our superb Year 11 GCSE performances in Drama.
Thank you again for all of your planning and preparation for the OFSTED visit on Tuesday. I realise it is difficult when events like these are cancelled at late notice. However Barnfield West Academy looked amazing on Tuesday morning, I also observed so many outstanding experiences whilst walking during Period 2. It has been a great start to the Summer term at Barnfield West Academy. Great to see all of our students returning so focused and refreshed after the Easter break.
Next week Barnfield College have their big OFSTED visit, we wish them all well during this week. As mentioned on the INSET day one of the inspectors, Philippa Grayson HMI, will be attending the Student Federal Parliament meeting at West Academy. I am also going to take the opportunity to show her around the Academy. This will happen during Period 2 on Tuesday at 10.15am. Thank you for your support in ensuring a Platinum visit.

Thank you for making our Sport Relief a big success, especially with the Big Mile on Friday afternoon. Also lovely to see so many students competing against the staff in Netball, Dodgeball and Basketball (photo right).
Another thank you to everyone involved in the Key Stage 3 evening, a great event for parents and students. Lots of support strategies shared and all focused around writing (photos below). We also have a number of our students visiting Paris this weekend, we wish them all an enjoyable trip.

As we approach the Easter break it continues to be an extremely busy period at Barnfield West Academy, especially with our continued subject enhancement work in Year 11 and our Year 12 mock exams.

This is an elite group of approximately 200 schools nationally and is in recognition of our continued academic achievements. I can also report that our excellent value added score of 1064.7 once again places Barnfield West Academy in the top 1% of schools nationally. A great start to the Spring Half Term II.
Especially starting with our Year 11 Parents Evening, a very purposeful and focused event. Along with a great OFSTED outcome for our sister academy, Barnfield South.
Thank you to everyone that continues to support all students as they prepare for key examinations.
It was also great to receive official confirmation that we are now part of the ‘Get Set’ Olympic network. The plaque will be on display in reception. Linked to sport, the photo on the right is of the Thursday night skating club – a brilliant community event, and ‘well done’ to our Year 11 Football Team for reaching the County Cup Semi-Final.

An amazing start to 2012 and a great half term, a full six weeks with so many learning experiences for our students (please see my letter home to parents).
For information, our sister academy Barnfield South will be inspected on the 22nd and 23rd of February. This is a Section 8 Monitoring Inspection focusing upon Science. To that end it is crucial we are operating at our Platinum standard throughout the week. Being part of a Federation means the HMI may choose to visit Barnfield West too. Attached to this blog are the top ten tips regarding this week and linked to an inspection.

A great start to 2012 at Barnfield West Academy.
It was really nice to start the year with our Year 11 Presentation Evening. A lovely celebratory night and great to see all of our ex-students. It really was a fantastic night.
We are now very close to a number of exams for many students across the Academy, from English GCSE to Literature to Maths to Languages to Science and Year 12 AS Levels too. An amazing week for Barnfield. Big congratulations go to our 'little sister' Barnfield Enterprise Studio Academy who achieved an 'Outstanding' judgement for their Inspection.
It was great to walk the academy with one of our Directors, Jackie Webb, on Thursday morning. She was very impressed by our building, all lessons visited and especially our students. A true Platinum Standard.
I am looking forward to some of our future events including the Year 11 GCSE evening, our Sixth Form Evening, Year 7 Literacy evening and the fast approaching Annual Open Evening.

Thank You to all involved in the Creativity Days, an excellent two days.
Our Dance Show on Thursday evening was amazing. Our students were dancing superstars. Thank you to Miss Hill and her team, along with the great food from Ms Revers catering team too.
We are now entering our final week of the 2010-11 academic year. Another big week ahead, with trips, sports days, assemblies and some in-line skating!

Barnfield West Academy ..... Where Champions are Made’
A truly momentous term for Barnfield West Academy. We started the year in our old and tired building preparing for our pending move. As the Spring 2011 term comes to an end we have now made our transition and taken ownership of our fantastic and amazing facility. Can I again take this opportunity to thank you for your patience and support during this transitional period. The term has definitely been special, and we are looking forward to our first Summer in the all new Barnfield West Academy.
Throughout this term we have continued to deliver outstanding educational experiences for all of our students. We have visited France, completed team building tasks at Green Park with Year 11, taken part in the Times Newspaper National Spelling Bee, developed independent learning through our Enterprise Day, raised nearing £1000 through Comic Relief activities, established our Federal Academy Parliament and these are just a few of our exciting pursuits. The next stop will be another global experience as we visit Barcelona over the Easter break.
In March Barnfield West Academy was again rewarded and recognised by the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust, both for achieving rapidly improving GCSE results in 2010 and for adding value to students’ achievements at GCSE in 2010. We are also in the top 1% of schools in the country for our Contextual Value Added score, with a headline figure of 1064.7.
Year 11 are now approaching their final hurdles as they enter into examination season. We have an extremely talented Year 11 cohort and we are looking forward to seeing them raise the achievement bar even further. I would like to wish them all well with their examinations and look forward to them joining our new Barnfield Sixth Form in September.
Our Academic Review Day was a real success, as an Academy we always appreciate the positive feedback and comments shared by yourselves on this day. We believe it acts as a perfect opportunity to discuss learning and consider the best next steps for your child. I hope you also enjoyed seeing our new facilities, and taking the chance to walk the building and observe our great new resources.
We are once again oversubscribed for Year 7 in September. We are fortunate to have our new building to support our ever increasing and talented community. I look forward to welcoming all of the prospective Year 7 parents throughout the coming Transition period.

I would also like to thank everyone involved in our great production of ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’, it involved students from Chantry, Southfields, Ferrars and St. Martin de Porres Primary schools. It was great to see so many parents visiting and sharing in the combined production, and an excellent transition experience.
As recognised by OFSTED Barnfield West Academy is a truly Outstanding team, with students, parents, carers and directors all working together towards our Platinum standard of education.
